Hippolyte Taine además de relevante filósofo, crítico literario e historiador escribió el libro de viajes "Voyage aux Pyrénées", obra publicada en 1860 por Librairie Hachette con ilustraciones de Doré, del cual es parte "Vida y opiniones filosóficas de un gato".
Gustave Doré (1832-1883) es uno de los ilustradores más importantes del siglo XIX y sus imágenes pueblan nuestro imaginario hasta hoy.
