This collection of domestic living spaces marries innovative and even visionary design with the desire to respond to new ways of living in order to foresee future possibilities. Some of the apartments included are prototypes designed for trade fairs and exhibitions; others are projects produced for international competitions or in design workshops at various research centers; and still others, despite their theoretical inception, have been constructed for actual residential use. Architects featured include Alison & Peter Smithson, Zechner & Zechner, and Steven Holl.
