“A queer retelling of The Adventures of Pinocchio”
"There's nothing wrong with you, you're just... unique! Like the rest of us"

Today I want to share with you all the review of a highly anticipated book that I was lucky enough to preview!
In the Lives of Puppets, Klune's new book out April 25, was my first read of 2023 and I think it will also be one of my best all year!
I truly loved every single word and filled my Kindle with underlining and notes!

In the Lives of Puppets is a queer retelling of Pinocchio and obviously like every Klune book we find the found family trope and a lot of representation (in this case the protagonist is asexual).
Pinocchio has never been one of my favorite fairy tales, but Klune's retelling is amazing and made me love this fairy tale too!
I absolutely loved all the characters and their interactions!
In the story we find characters like Rambo the roomba vacuum cleaner, a naive and helpless little robot (even a little dumb lol)... and he's literally my idol! His jokes with Nurse Ratched (the sociopathic robot) are iconic! I also really liked Vic as the protagonist and his father-son relationship with Gio is something wonderful!
Of Vic I appreciated the growth of him, the discovery of himself and his friendship with Rambo and Nurse Rached, and of course also the history of him with HAP!
Giovanni (Gio) is an amazing father and everything that happened to him made me cry every single tear!
While HAP is initially the "black sheep" of the group, but throughout history he too manages to make himself loved!

I also loved the setting that combines nature (the protagonists live in the woods) with a futuristic component full of robots and puppets!
The plot captivated me from the very first chapters and the book was finished in less than no time! I read the book in one day and couldn't stop thinking about all the wonderful characters and their adventures and misadventures!
Already at 30% of the book I was crying and the ending really made my heart burn with a thousand emotions! I just have to recommend it! I rate it even better than the house in the cerulean sea!

Thanks to Tor Books, Edelweiss and TJ Klune for providing me with this DRC in exchange for an honest review!
