Book details

Written for people both with and without prior knowledge of grammatical terminology, this book explains grammar points simply with plenty of examples to illustrate each point. It is structured so that readers can look up language forms according to what they want to say, without knowing the grammatical terms. For those with some grammar, there is a "reference grammar" section at the back of the book. The functional grammar consists of 21 units illustrating the various uses to which the language can be put, for example, giving instructions or talking about the recent past. The more traditional reference grammar deals with grammatical structures, such as the imperative or the perfect tense. All grammatical terms are explained in the glossary in the back of the book. Each unit contains exercises to help readers practice what they have learnt and there is a key at the back of the book for checking answers. This new edition has a new page design with headings in English for quick reference and a "taking it further" section directing readers to further sources of real German.
