Se trata de ofrecer un an lisis hist¢rico econ¢mico de la isla deMenorca desde tiempos primitivos hasta nuestros d¡as, obra hasta hoyinexistente. El m?todo utilizado es el de dos economistashistoriadores, reconocidos acad?micamente, que aplican las t?cnicaspropias de la econom¡a pol¡tica, de la estad¡stica y de la historiaconvencional, de modo que los resultados presentan novedosasinterpretaciones, entre las que destaca un estudio genuino, sinprecedentes, de la evoluci¢n de las patentes y nuevas empresasestablecidas en Menorca, y Baleares en general, respecto al resto deEspa¤a, entre 1852 y 1966, que viene a confirmar la tesis principaldel libro. Se pretende resaltar la importancia del capital humano y de las innovaciones tecnol¢gicas en el crecimiento econ¢mico y en eldesarrollo social.





The aim of this bookis to offer a historical and economic analysis of the island ofMenorca from primitive times to the present day, a work that has notexisted until now. The method used is that of two historianeconomists, academically recognised, who apply the techniques ofpolitical economics, statistics and conventional history, so that theresults present novel interpretations, including a genuine andunprecedented study of the development of patents and new companiesestablished in Menorca, and the Balearic Islands in general, withrespect to the rest of Spain, between 1852 and 1966, which confirmsthe main thesis of the book. The work also highlights the importanceof human capital and technological innovations in economic growth andsocial development.
